Nettica's DNS Services
Previously, I made mention of using a domain to your High Speed Internet IP address. At the time I was using DynDNS services. I had a one-year agreement for $24.95. When I started getting renewal notices, I noticed that $24.95 was seemingly kind of steep for the service. I could understand if I was a high traffic site requiring a lot of DNS lookups, but that's simply not the case. I'm using this for nothing other than personal use.
I started looking for other services that seemed to offer what I wanted at a more reasonable price.
I found Nettica. They charge $10 for the same service that DynDNS offers for $24.95. The service seems quick and reliable. In fact, the lookups seem to be a bit quicker than they had been with DynDNS.
When I signed up, I had a brain slip and entered the wrong domain. I contacted Nettica's support who had fixed the issue within a few hours.
The service offers web-based updating, or a Windows client/service for automatic updates. There is no Linux client, though I'm sure someone clever enough could write a script to do the same thing as the Windows client.
