RANDOM: Things I'm working On
I haven't posted in a few days, and I'll probably be busy for the next couple days - so I probably won't be able to contribute anything with regular frequency for the next week, so I thought I'd post a few things that have got my interest. I'm trying out a video-oriented LiveCD,
Newsforge posted a story about Dynebolic, a LiveCD Linux distribution for video enthusiast. I tried out 1.4 (from 2004). Newsforge had mentioned the forthcoming version two, but I was unable to find it. To be honest, a little disappointed with 1.4 - though, I'd still keep a copy around purely for having Icecast ready to go on short noticed. While 1.4 doesn't disappoint on the variety of multimedia applications available, I'm disappointed with some of the quality of applications (or at least their implementation in this distribution. Perhaps I'm just certain that the current versions of the applications will impress me on the Dynebolic 2.0 release.
Last week, Slashdot published this story about Moviebeam. The part I found of interest? The mention of the fact that signals are delivered by PBS. This led me to find out about National Datacast a spin-off of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. It seems as though the Moviebeam content is delivered on the streams of PBS affiliates. I did examine the Digital stream of my PBS Station in Phoenix (KAET), but didn't find any significant streams that were not accounted for (I did find some smaller PIDs, but they were so slow they could only be Close-Captioning or additional text information). Perhaps they send them out at a certain time of night?
(Update June 6: I found that MovieBeam uses Dotcast tecnology, which is not using the ATSC stream.)
In previous posts, you've seen me mention the pcHDTV HD3000. In the pcHDTV forums, waterhead gives instructions on how to get this card working in Windows. I made the effort once, but as you can see in the thread - I probably went too fast through the instructions. I have got the card working in Windows (though I still have to get audio working). It also prompted me to checkout Team MediaPortal's Open-Source home media innovations.

Also:
I maintain a website for some buddies of mine in a band. I took some photos. You may wish to check out the website and their myspace.com page if you want to give them a listen.
I'm having an annoyance issue with Webmin and Fedora Core 5. The issue seems to lie with the PAM module working correctly with Webmin. Hopefully I'll find the issue and post it soon.
I'm working on implementing WPA-EAP with FreeRADIUS (EAP-TLS) for wireless. The FreeRADIUS website has a link to a few helpful articles from Linux Journal.
I'm also working on the final section of the HD to DVD articles. It basically covers transcoding from the High Resolution HDTV content down to DVD resolution.
