iPod Not Seen in iTunes but visible in Windows Explorer

I have a laptop with a pretty unique partitioning scheme. Apparently, this is the cause of some problems with my iPod not being seen in iTunes.

iTunes will display "No iPod Connected", and iPodUpdate.exe doesn't seem to work either. Yet, Windows XP (presumably any flavor of Windows) will mount the iPod which becomes available via Windows Explorer.

I read the remedy while really digging through Google, but unfortunately I lost the reference. It looks as though the problem is that my iPod is mounted as my "C:" drive, thanks to my atypical partioning scheme. I simply right-clicked on "My Computer" and selected Manage. I could then right-click on the icon representing my drives to reassign the mounted iPod to something other than the "C:" drive.

As soon as I did that, my problems went away.
