HD-3000, HDTV/DVB on Linux
Well, as you'll notice from the long gap between posts, something has been keeping my busy. You can blame that on my sudden interest in HDTV on a PC, specifically the HD-3000 from pcHDTV - which runs on Linux.
I was planning on writing a big online handbook explaining on how to fully utilize this device. I also have some opinions on "the promise of HDTV" that I've either confirmed or debunked.
One thing I like about having this device is being able to capture the HDTV signal and downconverting to DVD. I dig U2's music, so being able to grab a recent episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien that featured them in HDTV and store on DVD was pretty cool.
I've also noticed that the local stations, even in a market the size of Phoenix, still can't seem to master HDTV technology. For example, after some time consuming troubleshooting, it seems my Fox station seems to package their audio just different enough that HDTV units don't have a problem, but the Linux software does. Aside from that, everything pretty much worked out of the box from pcHDTV.
Hopefully, I'll be able to post some helpful information in the coming days or weeks that may be of use to someone down the road.
