Ogg Vorbis in Windows Media Player/Equalized Ogg Vorbis in Linux
While trying out various video encoding codecs a few weeks ago, I stumbled onto some great DirectShow Filters that support pretty much any Ogg format (Theora and Vorbis).
I just think this is pretty cool, and Xiph.org's own website doesn't mention this handy (and stable, from what I see) plug-in for Microsoft Windows Media Player. However, I still seem to use Winamp when I'm in the Windows World.
Secondly, apparently Ogg Vorbis is not equalized with a default installation by the EQ in Linux's XMMS. I've seen a few posts searching Google that verify this. A plugin by Felipe Rivera seems to fix this problem. My experience with this plugin has left me happy with the sound quality and processor load, but seems a bit buggy. Leaving this third party plugin enabled will cause a segfault the next time you restart XMMS; manually removing the plugin object from the config file seems to resolve the problem and allows future use (until you forget to disable it).
I'll be keeping an eye on this; thanks to Rivera for trying to fix audio equalization problem.
